Sen. Tim Kaine Shares His Long Covid Experience at Solve Event, Calls for More Research and Equitable Care

Solve recently co-hosted with BIO the event “Long Covid: What Will It Take to Accelerate Therapeutic Progress?,” convening stakeholders to advance research and development to diagnose and treat Long Covid, ME/CFS, and other post-infection diseases.  The event was designed to engage drug developers and inform them of the unmet needs of our communities, and to inspire them to study these diseases and create therapeutic breakthroughs.

Perspectives from government, academic, and industry researchers, patient groups, funding sources, and policymakers were represented, and among the participants was Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA). Senator Kaine is a member of the Health Education, Labor and Pension Pensions Committee and last year introduced the CARE for Long Covid Act with Senators Markey and Duckworth.

In a special video produced for the event, Kaine spoke candidly about his three-year Long Covid journey, and what’s needed to make real progress for the millions who suffer.

In it, Kaine remarked, “I started sharing my own experience because people grappling with Long Covid symptoms should know that there is someone in the Senate who believes them and is working toward solutions.”

To date, Senator Kaine is the only member of Congress to disclose his status as a Long Covid  patient. We’re grateful for his ongoing support and look forward to working with him to secure more funding for Long Covid and other post-infection diseases.
