Solve ME/CFS Initiative (SMCI) has retained WittKieffer to assist in the recruitment of a dynamic and accomplished executive to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership for a Los Angeles-based mission-driven, entrepreneurial $2.5 million national healthcare research and advocacy non-profit organization dedicated to conquering Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), formerly known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), a serious, debilitating disease affecting an estimated one to 2.5 million individuals in the U.S.
As breakthroughs in medical research create new opportunities to address ME/CFS, the organization is positioned ideally to guide and catalyze a new wave of transformative research. As SMCI has grown in size, complexity and financial requirements, the need for proven business leadership and the urgency in raising the necessary capital to aggressively drive the research and advocacy agenda are at an all-time high.
The ideal candidate will have at least 7-10 years of senior level general management experience. Healthcare industry experience is strongly preferred from a not-for-profit healthcare/disease organization or other healthcare sector such as pharma/biotech, device, diagnostic, etc. The CEO will be an excellent communicator with external stakeholders and critical audiences for advocacy, fundraising, and marketing purposes. It would be ideal to have a track record of fundraising success and personal interest in learning about the advances being made in ME/CFS research with the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts and information to a wide range of audiences. She/he will be able to provide strategic leadership and support to a strong management team, staff and national Board of Directors while driving a positive, collaborative culture across the organization. The individual will be a strong, passionate, and high-profile advocate for SMCI’s work, embrace the role as the voice and face of the organization, and be compelled by delivering results with empathy and a sense of urgency for people with ME/CFS and their family members.
SMCI is open to strong candidates who do not wish to relocate, but can travel regularly to Los Angeles to work with the team.
