Sleep-stage dynamics

Natelson (Beth Israel Medical Center) and colleagues in Japan looked at sleep architecture in 12 patients who had CFS (alone), 14 patients with CFS plus fibromyalgia (FM) and 26 healthy controls. They found that transition from REM sleep to waking was significantly greater in subjects with CFS and concluded that “CFS and FM may be different illnesses associated with different problems of sleep regulation.” (Sleep, Nov. 1, 2011)
