1st Annual Ramsay Award Program Begins

The Solve ME/CFS Initiative is proud to announce that it is now accepting applications for the Ramsay Award Program in Basic, Preclinical, Clinical and Epidemiology Research. This grants competition is open to scientists and researchers, at any career stage interested in studying ME/CFS. We named the award after Myalgic Encephalomyelitis pioneer Dr. A. Melvin Ramsay, who remained until his passing in 1990 a staunch advocate for the plight of ME/CFS patients. His clinical description of the disease stood the test of time.

It is anticipated that the Ramsay Awards be made annually. Individual awards will range between $35,000 and $55,000 for a one-year period, with the possibility of renewals to projects yielding promising results. In short, the program has three main objectives:

  • INVEST in original ideas that could clarify the onset, progression, root causes and natural history of ME/CFS.
  • CREATE permissive environments to attract, support and retain scientific talent in the ME/CFS community and help awardees generate data to compete for long-term federal funding.
  • FACILITATE collaboration and cross-pollination among dedicated researchers through the sharing of resources and the access to additional programming and the organization’s network.

For our supporters, the Ramsay Program is a direct investment of your contribution, financial or otherwise, in research. We are thrilled to be able to launch these programs on your behalf, in addition to our other efforts taking place simultaneously.

For our researchers, this investment in seed grants through an open competition, reflects our commitment to participatory research and inclusivity towards advancing the field and amplifying your voice.

Submitted proposals will undergo a rigorous, peer-review process to select the most meritorious applications. Proposals are due on Friday July 29th, 2016. Please consult this webpage for further information and downloads.

Warmly,

Zaher Nahle PhD, MPA
Vice President for Research & Scientific Programs.
