SMCI Deeply Engaged with NIH Officials to Further Appropriate ME/CFS Funding

On May 24, 2016, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) released the first ever Request for Information (RFI) regarding ME/CFS, requesting submissions addressing new research strategies for the disease.

The 2016 SMCI Webinar Series Continues

The Solve ME/CFS Initiative (SMCI) is pleased to announce the second half of its webinar series for 2016. The series, which features thought leaders from academia, industry, and government agencies, is always free of charge and will take place once a month on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. eastern time/10:00 a.m. Pacific time (unless otherwise specified).

Introducing the Seed Grant Ramsay Award Program

The Solve ME/CFS Initiative (SMCI) is now accepting applications for the Ramsay Award Program in basic, preclinical, clinical, and epidemiology research. This competitive grant award is open to scientists and researchers at any career stage who are interested in studying myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME)/chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). The program is named for ME pioneer Dr. A. Melvin Ramsay, who remained a staunch advocate for the plight of ME/CFS patients until his passing in 1990.

Meet the Newly Formed London Med Ed Workgroup

The London Med Ed Workgroup is a new initiative formed during the 11th Invest in ME International ME Conference 2016 (IIMEC11), held in London on June 3, 2016.

Solve ME/CFS Initiative’s vice president for research and scientific programs, Dr. Zaher Nahle, was tasked by meeting organizers to assemble a starter team of Med Ed experts from conference participants to examine national and international medical educational efforts in ME/CFS and explore areas for potential collaboration.

Dr. Zaher Nahle to Speak at the UK CFS/ME Research Collaborative (CMRC) Annual Science Conference in September 2016

Dr. Zaher Nahle, vice president for research and scientific programs at the Solve ME/CFS Initiative (SMCI), will be participating in the CFS/ME Research Collaborative (CMRC) Annual Science Conference held September 28 - 29 in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. Dr. Nahle was invited to lecture on the most recent ME/CFS research advances, including programs at SMCI.

Dr. Tarek Absi Visits the Solve ME/CFS Initiative Team

The Solve ME/CFS Initiative (SMCI) team in Los Angeles, California, was pleased to welcome Research Advisory Council Member Dr. Tarek Absi late last month.

Dr. Absi is a prominent cardiothoracic surgeon in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a staff surgeon, cardiac surgery, at the Nashville Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
